Inspiring April

by PRITeam

Every month we share some of the things we’re currently obsessing over. Songs we can’t stop humming, a movie we’re still thinking about two weeks later, the best article we’ve read recently, a recipe to die for. The things that make us stop in our tracks and say “Yeah!"

Save the Elephants Responsible Action

Chintan Parikh was moved to immediate action upon hearing of GoDaddy CEO Bob Parson’s record of elephant hunting in Zimbabwe for sport. He (and PRI) join hundreds of others who’ve moved their domain registrations from GoDaddy in protest. Through Namecheap.com, over $20,000 has been raised through such transfers to directly benefit Save the Elephants.

Checkmate It's Your Move

Frank J. Mendelson was asked recently, "Do you play chess?"
"Well, yes," he answered somewhat hesitantly, "but not for years, and I wasn’t very good then." But that launched his enthusiastic return to the chess board, which has been great fun, despite a series of bloody massacres with Frank at the losing end.

King of the Road You Can't Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd

Elena Nazzaro grew up on a steady diet of Roger Miller and has been sharing it with her kids. More than just a country-music star, he voiced cartoon characters and wrote the songs for the Tony Award-winning musical Big River. "I'm so inspired by his nuttiness and his Grammy-Award-winning streak (6 in one night, 11 altogether!)." Have a listen to some favorites from her appropriately-named Grooveshark playlist, "More Roger Miller Than You Can Shake a Stick At." (For more about Grooveshark, read Kevin's inspiration below.)

Redemption Unbroken

Dany Petraska is in the middle of reading Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand (author of Seabiscuit). This is the story of Louie Zamperini, an Olympic runner and war survivor. Imagine being lost at sea for weeks and weeks, regular and constant beatings at a Japanese POW camp from a man who will haunt your dreams . . . Louie’s story is heart wrenching, but it’s so important that his story is being told. What makes this book stand out for Dany? “It makes me wonder about the men who were with him, the men whose paths he crossed who were never heard from again. It’s a story of one man who perseveres beyond what any of us think we could endure, and yet he does, and because he does, it gives you the hope and strength that you could too."

Hello Spring Spring's Eternal

Nichole Chobin recently came across a marvelous quote. Inspirational and powerful in its simplicity to awaken us to ourselves and nature, she says "it is perfect for spring anew."

"The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity . . . and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself." ~William Blake

Nature's Beauty Sunrise, Sunset

Matt Wenner is finding inspiration in the sunset. This peaceful vacation photo was taken from a boat "off the west coast of Florida, Gulf of Mexico side." It's a good reminder to relax and enjoy the beauty of the world around you. We're reminded fondly of another PRIer who liked to do the very same thing.

Unlimited Music Groovy Shark

Kevin Williams loves music of all genres, so this month his inspiration comes from Grooveshark. Like Pandora, Grooveshark allows users to stream & discover new music. Grooveshark however, also allows users to search for and create playlists of exactly what songs they want to hear, absolutely free. With the addition of the mobile subscription you can take Grooveshark Mobile with you, and your phone’s plugged in to the world’s largest music library. “Grooveshark is a music lover’s paradise."
